Delhi shg meeting 13 November 2011

Tisa’s delhi shg meeting held at central park in delhi as usual. Metting was attend by six members Sikander, Pramendera, Abhishek, Umesh, Pinakin and Tijo Thomas. Tijo was a new member who was planning to take speech therapy but on suggestion of mr. Nitin tomer, he joined our group. He might surprise to see what weird things we do there. Tijo had mild stammering problem and I really appreciate his good listening skills and positive approach to listen the severe stammering. This meeting was after a long gap for me (after Tisa’s workshop on 22 oct). Today when I was preparing to go in meeting, a thought came in my mind -“Theek se haklaye bhahut din ho gye, aaj haklane jana hai”. Actually this line told by my one of mine friend in delhi workshop ( name dosn’t need to mention otherwise he will be more happy). Ok, so what we did this time. After little introduction of everyone, first we shared our experiences after workshop in our daily life. What new challenges and changes we were feeling now? Then we did a round of voluntary stuttering. After this, we made a group discussion on a topic “Is stuttering should be declared a disability or not in India?” as we know, it also ended without a good conclusion.
At last sikander sir told us about slow speaking rate. Each of us read a book for a minute one bye one; and find our speaking rate high or low. One last activity, that I can’t miss to mention here. Sikander sir told us to go to a group of girls to educate them about stuttering. Everyone step behind, I gave excuse that I can’t go because these are beautiful girls ( mujh jaise handsome ladke ki tho bejajjati hi ho jayegi). Parmendra took the initiative and approached them to speak. I was watching him by nearby. Once he stuck badly on a word and one girl started to laugh but he did not lose his courage. Spoke again and told them what they should do if they talk to any other like him. Immediately girl shut up and feels sorry. I appreciate his guts and gave a pet on his back. We missed Lalit and gaurav.

Words are always beautiful!

Sometime I think why some words are so ugly that they can’t even pronounced properly. I hated some words because they are terrible to speak. But some time I liked them when they came fluently but..why ?? Words are words! They always same. Words are always beautiful. I am an covert stammer(still I m) and hated to disfluency. I not only hate of mine disfluency but also of others; who stutters in front of mine. Is it is so bad that we should hate it? Who says it is bad? Only stammers people of my own type say this; because for us, speech is only a worthy thing in this world. When I start to work on acceptance, sharing my problem with others. Believe me! I didn’t get a single one who says it is bad. Everyone made by god is unique. Everyone given some sort of problem by birth. Good people never respond negative; if they it means they want to hide their own problem.
I want to share my experience with words. I mostly get block on words that start with vowel sounds. Few days back; I went to the stationary book store. I wanted to buy an “Envelop” from the shop. I opened my mouth; try to speak out the word but word stuck somewhere in throat. Then I remembered the technique like bouncing or something else. But what the hell was happening with me. I could not even speak with them. At last I have to replace my word Envelop to Lifafa. I got depressed. I know all the techniques but still can’t implement them in real life. What I am learning? But after talking to my motivators; I got my answer. I want to implement any technique at time of difficulty. But I don’t have much experience to use these techniques in lighter mode. Then how it can be possible?? I hated words with vowel sounds. Sometime thinks if these vowels are kicked out of dictionary then it will be perfect! But words are words, they remain always same. They always beautiful. Only our mind categorized them according to situation. Learning to deal with this complex, critical mind is needed One thing I have to learn, I will have to love the disfluency of mine and of others.  Words From deep of my heart.

Perfect piece, highlighting the need for practicing the techniques in normal situations first, before trying them during emergencies..

A Stuttering meet on 4th December in Delhi

Delhi shg meeting

A stuttering friends meeting took place in Delhi, this time in place of earlier shg’s. It was quite interesting because this time we had maximum members and a roof on our heads :-). We are thankful to mr. Nitin tomer for providing us his home for meeting.  Meeting attended by ten members in which 4 new members Sallender, Sachin tayagi, Arun, Rajlingam, Amit dixit and Sorav. The Meeting was hosted by Parmendra, Sikander and Umesh. Ok. We do the following activities in the meeting :-
  1.    Introduction- First we did a formal introduction round for everyone who came to meeting. Some member use techniques which they learned but everyone had hard time to speak his name as I feel.
  2.    Sharing experience- We provided new members to share their experiences with stammering and speech therapy. Members wanted to tell more about their good and bad experiences of life, but we had to say sorry to provide everyone time to speak.
  3.    Sharing techniques- Parmendra told all members to follow the ground rules of speaking at slow pace. Some members already following it like Mr. Amit dixit and Sachin tayagi. We both param and me was really surprised that how they could maintain the slow and rhythm in their speech without feeling the pressure of group. Hat's down to their attitude.
Umesh showed demo of bouncing and prolongation to all members. Some members had question about it but their doubts were cleared. Attending workshops in earlier time really came to help me. We also gave a chance to every member to speak few sentences with the new techniques just they had learned.
  4.    Reading practice- We provided some newspapers to everyone to read and check their speaking rate. Some members had fast speaking rate like me and param, some had very slow speaking rate. Sikander ji told that we had to reduce speaking rate to a balanced one by taking pauses and deep breaths.
  5.    Telephonic conversation- All members was given some telephone numbers like Taj hotel, Ticket reservation, electronic purchasing etc randomly. Few members made video recording of their mates. Everyone feel shy at first time but after finishing the task they really feel relaxed and confident. I myself had lot of blocks which consume lot of energy and I feel hunger. The best telephonic conversation award went to Mr. Nitin tomer, who really showed us never give approach.
  6.    Chinese whisper- After the testy lunch at home with stuttering friends. We played a fun activity also. In this we had two groups. One group had to tell story and other group’s member had to tell story to it’s member one by one. We enjoyed this activity with fun. People tend to change their words and loose  their content as they proceed to next person. It showed that we have to concentrate on listening skills also. A good communication needs both.
  7.    Group discussion- We did a group discussion on a topic”Working way of ISA (India Against Corruption) is good or not??” Everyone provided their knowledge about it. But no group was ready to accept defeat. Parmendra did a great job in GD. He provided everyone equal opportunity to speak and to put their points. I really enjoyed this activity most because I also got a chance to update my knowledge.
  8.    Feedback- Parmendra told to group for their valuable feedbacks. Everyone had wrote their phone no and mail id on piece of paper. We also share some information about incoming National conference.             Thanks to everyone to join us and fill our party with joy and knowledge. I also thanks to Dr. Sachin and Jaiprakash who showed us a path which we are now following with ease. Apologist for some delay and posting without good pics.

A Delhi stutter friends Meet

Hi Friends,

On the initiative of Delhi SHG, a mini communication workshop was organized at Nitin Ji's residence, Indirapuram, DELHI NCR on 4th December. The main purpose of this event was to focus on communication skill so the event consisted of many activities like introduction, reading, speech games, debate, group discussion, question answers and telephoic converstion. There were 10 members and there names are Nitin, Pramendra, Umesh, Sikander, Tejo Thomas, Arun, Sachin Tayagi, Saurav, Shalendra and Rajulingam. Sachin tayagi, Saurav, Shalendra and Rajulingam were the new members and Delhi SHG welcomed them whole heartdly.

We all had a good discussion and learned a lot from other's experiences. In telephonic conversation we had to call airlines and Five Star hotel for booking inquiry. Earlier, Everyone was a bit hesitant but the best thing is that we all tried and had good discussion with them. It has made us fee that "it is not a big deal" we can do it. Everyone played the speech game very nicely and there was a tie between both the teams. There was a big involvement in Debate and group discussion on a given topic. The good thing is that everyone participated in the discussion and put their point. It was very interesting and looked like the real discussion aired on TV.
Overall, we had a good time and it made us think beyond stammering also. Thanks everyone for making it a successful event. A special thank to Nitin, Pramendra and Umesh for organizing the meeting.
A detailed review with pics will be posted very soon by Umesh. Please be patience :-)

Day 3 CommWS HB

We took our acceptance to next level today: we put on the T shirts with a message: Stammer- with love (in Hindi)! (and then went to town! I mean, Dehradun)
Then, the group was suddenly taken to a meeting of the host organization, and was asked to thank them formally, one by one, using their techniques. Then,we shared a case study about relationships and how they can influence our acceptance. We also reviewed some of the videos of the participants.
Then we went to Samagra (Dehradun) and gave a presentation to Canadian students about stammering: suddenly the stammerers were turned into Experts, as it were.. Every one had lot of fun. Anubhav sang, Reekrit gave a gist of Freud's contribution to Psychology. Umesh Rawat gave a formal presentation on "Active server pages" (he is doing M.Tech, from Bhiwani, this is why, he was given this topic suddenly.). Dr Kshitiz and Vijay also joined us and enriched the interactions. We closed the serious discussions with a funny video: Art of stuttering.
As we drove back to Herbertpur, we discussed what have we learned from the various events of the day.. and it was lots. Sachin too received a feedback on his presentation skills...

Delhi SHG meeting on 25 september

Delhi SHG meeting held on central park new delhi on 25 september as regular. This time we were all young pws and no senior present. But it was quite successful as we managed to practice all techniques. This time Mr. Lalit, Umesh Rawat, Parmendra bundela, Abhishek, Pinakin, Abhishek2 and a new member Sourav Aggrawal attended this. Mr. lalit share his experience with Vipasana meditation which he attended last week. We all others were quite unknown of this thing. He told us very sincerely and answered our all queries which we asked. Parmendra explained how to do bouncing in good manner and what it’s benefits to a pws. Umesh told his experience of “Acceptance” and it’s benefits. And what we will lost if we don’t work on acceptance. Abhishek gave us one bye one activities and alert us what we left or what we did wrong. Courage of this person is really great. He never seems to be defeated. Mr. Pinakin told us his life journey as a stammer and how stammering affects our all other surroundings.                        After practicing all the techniques including voluntary stuttering, we discussed on organizing workshop in Delhi and many other aspects (like venue, fees etc) & activities with it. It was quite a pleasant meeting. We were happy that we successfully arranged and completed it in absence of our previous senior coordinators. We learned how to manage and handle a group. Thanks to all other members to become a part of big TISA family. We supported each other and we learn from each other. We miss Sikander, Gaurav, arun and nitin tomer.

Wonderful Umesh!! You really know how to describe an event, what a perfect post!! I too agree with you about Abhishek. I would also like to add a few things about him. The more I know this person, the more his courage amazes me. Words like quit and defeat aren't there in his life. The way he face each hurdle with a sweet smile on his face really inspires me a lot. Bravo my friend!! I also enjoyed the meeting and learnt from all of you. Although, due to sunday we couldn't book the YMCA hall. Besides it it was all perfect. Keenly waiting for our next meet... Thank you.

Great! this is what self-help is all about. And yes- dont wait for "seniors" (me included!)- let them conduct their own meeting whenever they are ready- You young guys go ahead and do what you like, and what now you know is the best way forward for YOU.. So, why wait for anyone or anything? Congratulations to each one of you!
